Ana Ruas

Ana Ruas was born in Machadinho, RS, lives and works in Campo Grande - MS, since 1996. Besides her individual production, performs projects directed to Contemporary Art and transdisciplinaries themes, through an open studio, founded in 2011, where welcome, invite, gather and host art critics, curators, artists and other professionals, therefore taunting, exchanges about contemporary art, and transdisciplinary subjects. Receives schools and develops educational actions, workshops to professors and academics.

Graduated in both bachelors and teaching degree in Plastic Arts by Universidade de Passo Fundo/RS, from 1984 to 1988; Specialization in Art and New Technologies by UFMS - Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso o Sul, Campo Grande/MS, in 2003; Lived in São Paulo capital from 1990 to 1995.

Ana Ruas has as research, a conceptual repertory, the space and inhabited place: the urban intervention of hers and other cities; the center-west light; enourmous aereal spaces and Campo Grande city's typically horizontal architecture  The desire to intervene, brings the artist to create efemeral architectures, capable of printing a magic and ilusion character.

The work of Ana Ruas as a whole, elaborates starting from own language questions, those which the artist search to resolve, sometimes filling small or big canvas, sometimes recovering with pictoric interventions in walls, viaducts, blind walls, internal spaces as museums, galleries and her own studio. The artist, though interventions, creates efemeral architectures like Pic nic In-door, at Ana Ruas Atelier, 2011; Apagamento, 2014; Plano B, 2014; Construções Verticais, 2010; MARCO - Museu de Arte Contemporânea de MS; Lixo Seletivo, 2009; Festival da Cidade de Porto Alegre/RS; Colunas, 2009, at Pinacoteca of Maceió; Redário, 2009 at Centro Cultural Otavio Guizzo; Balaustres, 2004; Museu de Arte Contemporânea de MS and, in Campo Grande/MS; 14 viaducts/runways at the city of Campo Grande in 1999, among others. Participated at collective exhibitions in Mato Grosso do Sul and other brazilian states. 

In 2015, the artist was contemplated by the PIPA Award, in Popular's Vote category. In 2014, participated at Bienal del Fin del Mundo, in Mar del Plata, Argentina; 2014, painted the facade of MACP - Popular Culture Art Museum, Cuiabá, MT, in comemoration of the institution's 40 years; In 2013, was contemplated with the FUNARTE Woman in Visual Arts Award, with the project "Entre Vários Olhares: da Pintura à Intervenção" Seminar.

Among other projects, aiming to discuss painting, intervention nd contemporary art, stands out: The Visual Arts project in MS - Shared Processes, made available by FIC/2014. The "Educando o Olhar" Project, in 2013. Between 2001 and 2003, idealized the "A Cor das Ruas" project, contemplating 53 neighborhoods of Campo Grande, with the participation of 720 teenagers of several institutions.
